Camping at Banks

Camping at Banks is a small, back to basics and off-grid campsite for walkers and cyclists (no vehicles) 150m from the Hadrian’s Wall National Trail path in the village of Banks. We have space for tents and a simple, cosy shepherds hut sleeping up to 3 with a woodburining stove inside.

We are open all year round.

Camping spots are in a natural space and are most suited to small backpacking tents. We have 2 compost loos. There are also 3 outside clay sinks with drinking water. There is no shower and no electricity on the site.

The hut has a double and single bunk (the single has restricted head space so better for small people). We provide a bottom sheet, pillows and pillowcases. If you don’t have your own sleeping bag you can hire one of our Fine Bedding Co bags for £5 each. There are plates, bowls, cups and cutlery.

Camping – £6 per person per night

Shepherds hut – £50 per night single occupancy; £60 double; £65 triple.

To reserve the hut we’ll ask for a £20 deposit, fully refundable up to 2 weeks before your stay. You can access the hut any time after 4pm. Check out is 11am. Do give us a call on the day you are arriving and we can let you know if the hut is available earlier.

If you are using one of the baggage transfer companies operating along Hadrian’s Wall the pick up and drop off location is the wooden bag store at the back of Newgate House (the house at the end of the lane leading to the campsite). Bags are left at your own risk.

If you don’t have your own cooking facilities there are a few take-away places in nearby Brampton who will deliver to Banks. Walking east along the wall path Birdoswald fort 3 miles away has a cafe. Walking west, the Reading Room team rooms in Walton is around 4 miles away. There is also a cafe in Lanercost, 1 mile from Banks.
